Trek Rules

Peterson Ranch Rules:

  • Hand Cart Check-out/check-in

The handcarts that you will be pulling are quite an investment.  We hope that you will understand and appreciate the need for us to protect and preserve their condition.  We will check the handcarts before you take them on your trek to verify they are all in good working condition.  When your trek is complete we will inspect them as they are turned in.  We understand that they will be exposed to sun and weather, along with normal trail wear.  Please understand that if there is undue damage caused by accident or neglect, there will be additional fees to pay for the damage.

  • Historic Trail Protocol:

We are excited about the opportunity to share parts of the actual historic trail with you.  You will be walking on the trail where our pioneer ancestors once walked.  We hope that you will feel the sacredness of this trail and feel a sense of duty to help preserve it for others that will follow.  We would ask that you not remove any rocks or artifacts from the trail.  We encourage you to bring cameras and let them take as many pictures as they want.

Because the trail that you will be on is private property please consider that you have been given special permission to be here.  Please respect this ground and the owners of it.  There will be occasion to pull off the trail for lunches and breaks. Please keep in mind that these are working ranches, and the ranchers rely on the natural vegetation to feed their animals.  Be careful not to trample down the feed.   With regard to the livestock, if you should happen to run into any on the trail we would ask you to leave them alone and give them a wide berth.

With regards to the wildlife, we hope that you see them, please don’t harass them.  You are guests in their home.

One last reminder in regards to the trail, please follow the principle of Leave No Trace.  Please do not litter.

  • Bathroom Facilities/Water:

We will provide locations along the trail for you to stop at the bathroom, and to refill your water containers.

On the subject of water, when it comes to hydration there is no substitute.  We will be hauling in water for your convenience.  We want you to use as much as you need.  However, this water is not intended for bathing.  We would like to encourage you to not waste a lot of water when you are in camp.

You will need to bring jugs to take water with you in the handcarts. 5- 10 gallons per handcart is best.  (please bring these jugs full and we will top them off at lunch)

  • Campground Rules:

We want you to have an enjoyable camping experience during your trek.  These rules will help to make it pleasant for you and those that follow you.

1 –When you arrive in camp we want you to set up your cooking area at the edge of the meadow.

2 –Do not dig trenches in the ground around your tent

3 –Please use the portable bathrooms when you are in camp, not the sage brush or trees.

4 –We will provide you with fire barrels to have your camp fire in.  They need to be set up off the ground.  Please do not have fires anywhere else.  Your fires need to be accompanied by someone at all times.  Make sure your fire is completely put out before you leave!!!

5 – We do have firewood available for 50.00 per 100 people;  we will have it there at each camp for you.  You are welcome to bring your own firewood.  We will let you know if there is any kind of fire ban.

6 –Please do not leave anything in camp that you brought with you.  Pack it in, pack it out.

  • Garbage Removal:

Please take it all the way home with you and dispose of it there. We do have a city dump in Evanston and Fort Bridger, if you need to empty the trash while you are here.(about 30 min away)   If your trash is paper based you may burn it in your campfire prior to your leaving camp.  Please don’t burn plastic or attempt to burn metal-based trash.  Thank you.
