The Stake Youth Committee is very much involved in the planning of the upcoming pioneer trek. They met to discuss what the theme of this trek should be and many scriptures and ideas were presented but none really resonated with the youth. Then one of the youth mentioned the Hawaiian word “Ohana” as a possibility. It seemed strange at first until we learned that the word meant FAMILY and in the extended sense it emphasizes that family means that nobody gets left behind or forgotten.
As the youth discussed this idea and how it related to what the pioneers went through and also how it reminded them of the Savior’s parable of the lost sheep, where the shepherd leaves the ninety and nine to go after the one, they began to really like it and voted unanimously to adopt this as our pioneer trek theme:
